Christmas, MI, postcards

Image
Michigan is an interesting place. We have Paradise, Hell, and Christmas. I've been to Paradise and Hell, literally, but not Christmas, which is located near Munising. Here are two examples of Christmas, MI, postcards from our MI postcard collection. The end of the academic term is nearly here. Another year is nearly over. Wishing you all a safe, happy, healthy holiday and a good New Year.

FNF OFFERS $5,000 GRANT TO FILM PRESERVATION STUDENTS

THE NANCY MYSEL LEGACY GRANT  Through generous donations from the Mysel family, the non-profit Film Noir Foundation established in 2015 The Nancy Mysel Legacy Grant, a $5,000 grant to be awarded annually to university students in film restoration/preservation studies.  The grant is named in honor of the late Nancy Mysel, a superb film preservationist for UCLA Film & Television Archive, who supervised the FNF restorations of  The Prowler  and  Cry Danger , but who lost a long-running battle with cancer in 2012 at the age of 45. Eddie Muller, FNF founder and president, says, “I can’t overstate how essential Nancy was to our success.  Her commitment to the highest level of restoration set an immense standard, which she challenged everyone to meet – including us. …  The best way we can honor her legacy is by ensuring that everything we do in the future measures up to her incredible standard of excellence.” Through the non-profit's charitable adjunct, the FNF is proud to carry

I love Paris......as Ella sang

Yes, I've finally been to Paris. Paris, MI, that is. It is a village just north of Big Rapids. I met a donor there who had way more than the 10 boxes she told me she had. I barely got it all in the CMULibraries jeep including the passenger seat. Below you can see it all on carts. The collection documents the PBB Action Committee, a community action group composed mainly of farmers who fought back against ignorance, misdirected blame and ineptitude of the MI PBB Disaster. Paris has a 20-foot tall Eiffel tower at which you take your selfie, but it was chained off for the winter. I shall have to return someday when it is warm and take my pic there. What a glorious archives day!  I met a wonderful lady in Paris and collected a literal Jeep-ful of records. Archives rock!
