Smithsonian 175th Film Fest Looking at the Future: Yesterday's Tomorrows When: Thursday, November 18, 5 p.m. ET Registration: siarchives.si.edu/... |
What will the future hold? We can't
predict it, but we do try to shape it-and so have those who came before us. As
part of our ongoing Smithsonian 175th Film Fest series, the Smithsonian
Libraries and Archives invites you to a screening of Yesterday's Tomorrows: Visions of the
Future on Film, featured in a 1984 National Museum of American
History exhibit that examined how past visions of the future continue to impact
our present and inspire even further futures. Join Smithsonian Libraries and
Archives conservator William Bennett on November 18 at 5 p.m. ET to explore
retro-futurism and get excited for the Smithsonian's upcoming celebration of
future-looking innovation in FUTURES,
the inaugural exhibition of the newly reopening historic Arts and Industries
Building. We look forward to seeing you there!
About the Smithsonian 175th Film
Fest: Films from the Smithsonian Institution Archives
To celebrate the Smithsonian's 175th anniversary, the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives is hosting monthly programs featuring films from the collections of the Smithsonian Institution Archives. The series will be hosted virtually between August 2021 and August 2022.
In addition to
the film screenings, archivists, conservators, and subject experts will also
provide some context to the videos, share a little about their work, and answer
questions from the audience during the one-hour programs. These screenings will
also be the first instance that the films have ever been made available online
to the public.
*Please note
that due to copyright restrictions, this particular film will not be streamed
or saved to the Smithsonian
Institution Archives YouTube channel. Viewers must register for the
Zoom webinar.
