Code4Lib 2025 Conference

Here's my favorite stress reliever pencil to preface this announcement.

Code4Lib 2025 is a loosely-structured conference that provides people working at the intersection of libraries/archives/museums/cultural heritage and technology with a chance to share ideas, be inspired, and forge collaborations. The conference will be held March 10-13, 2025 at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ. You can find more information about the conference on the conference web site (https://2025.code4lib.org/) and more information about the Code4Lib community at https://code4lib.org/about/.

Keynote speaker nominations for the Code4Lib 2025 Conference will be accepted from now through November 22. Nominations should be made on our keynote nominations page (https://wiki.code4lib.org/2025_Keynote_Speakers_Nominations) on the Code4Lib wiki. To get a wiki account, please email Ryan Wick at ryanwick@gmail.com; if you wish to make a nomination without a wiki account, please email Hardy Pottinger at hardy.pottinger@ucsf.edu (please use CODE4LIB KEYNOTE NOMINATION as the email subject.)

 When making a nomination, please consider whether the nominee is likely to be an excellent contributor in each of the following areas:

1) **Appropriateness**. Is this speaker likely to convey information that is useful to many members of our community?

2) **Uniqueness**. Is this speaker likely to cover themes that may not commonly appear in the rest of the program?

3) **Contribution to diversity**. Will this person bring something rare, notable, or unique to our community, through uncommon experience or background?

 

Please include the following information in your nomination:

- Speaker’s full name

- Brief description of individual (250-word max)

- Pertinent links (Maximum of 3)

- Contact information for candidate (email address)

 

The Keynote Committee will attempt to contact all nominees and will only include on the ballot those who consent to be nominated.

25th work anniversary

Today is my 25th work year anniversary. I don't think anyone knows it but me. On July 5, 1996 I parked in the small lot west of Park Library and took the elevator to 4th floor. I had just cracked my windshield and was so embarrassed about it. My desk was in a work room with a kitchen where everyone ate, no privacy at all. My first job with a few students was processing Senator Griffin's 400 cubic foot collection. I had a brand new, huge computer that wasn't plugged in yet. It took up most of my desk space. When I taught Lib 197 we did so in a room where only I had a computer. My job has morphed so much since then. I am grateful for all the positives over the years and through my various jobs. Mostly it's been good. I try to learn from the good and the bad. Meet my summer archives processing student Brandon Horn

  Hello! I'm Brandon Horn, a senior at  Central Michigan University (CMU) studying Social Science with one more semester to go in my undergrad. During my two-month tenure over the summer, I processed CMU Athletics files, meticulously cataloging and preserving important historical documents and records. This involved examining a variety of materials, from game statistics, photographs, and event programs to media questionnaires, assisting Marian Matyn in ensuring they were accurately documented and stored from where they were previously in the Athletics Department's basement. Additionally, I played a crucial role in organizing and creating digital finding aids for these collections to help future researchers easily locate each item.   I was drawn to archival work because it allows me to connect with the past in a tangible way that tells an important part of CMU's storied past.
