Ukrainian archives videos

Here are two short videos, both visually stunning, I thought you'd enjoy.

The first, Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine, Lviv, shows how the archives developed from a monastery with extensive holdings dating from 1370 into part of the national archives, its original medieval murals, volumes, bookcases, doors, interiors, and ends with a brief view of current staff digitizing the volumes to preserve these extraordinary collections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr-3FUtyGbc. This plays for 4 minutes and 37 seconds.

The second is titled Unity Traditions in Centuries and shows more gorgeous views of early manuscripts and documents while telling how the leaders of Lviv and Ukraine joined forces to fight the enemy, a tradition that continues today. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGzsl0UWDeY.  This plays for under 2 minutes.

The videos come from in an email to me from the Association of Canadian Archivists which held a special meeting on April 12, 2023 with the Director and Archivist of the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine. Their discussion covered the history of the archives as well as "very exceptional procedures that have had to be implemented due to the current war."
