CMU Women at the 1977 Spartan Invitational Women's Track and Field meet

Today's blog is courtesy of my friend Matthew Wilcox, Audiovisual Archivist in the Media Preservation Unit of MSU Libraries. Here is a link to a page on which you can see the recently digitized and described moving image film from MSU Archives & Historical Collections: https://onthebanks.msu.edu/Object/162-565-7609/msu-mens-golf-msu-womens-track-and-field-1977/ The first 2 minutes of the film are men golfing, but at 1:59 we see footage of the 1977 Spartan Invitational Women's Track and Field meet. The CMU women's team appears a few times. Each student competes wearing a gold tank and shorts combination with a red stripe on the side seams and CENTRAL on the tank. I hope you enjoy it. Many thanks to Matthew who continues to do a fabulous job at MSU digitizing and describing moving image film, and of sharing his findings with others. Archivists make the best friends! You can read about the context of the film here: https://mediapres.commons.msu.edu/2022/07/08/title-ix-and-the-1977-invitationals-film/. This film is particularly relevant today as we celebrate the history of Title IX and its impact on women's sports. Enjoy!
