PT Archival Processing Internship, Grand Valley State University
Working on-site under the direction of the University
Archivist and Digital Collections Librarian, the Archival Processing Intern
will develop and undertake a processing plan for the papers of Robert Merrill,
civil engineer and archaeologist, including the cleaning and rehousing of glass
lantern slides and possible digitization of a portion of the collection.
Start and End Date: January 6, 2022 – May 5, 2022
Hourly Rate: $23.55
- Review
materials and develop processing plan, with special review for
preservation attention
- Process,
arrange and describe archival materials
- Author
EAD and DACS compliant findings aid(s) using ArchivesSpace
- Recommend
selections from the collection for digitization, and if time allows
digitize a portion of the collection
- Create
metadata records for digital surrogates using Dublin Core metadata schema,
and ingest content into the GVSU Digital Collections (Omeka)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters
degree (completed or in-progress) in Library or Information Science with a
concentration in Archives.
- Experience
processing archival or historic materials.
- Familiarity
with Dublin Core metadata schema and basics of archival digitization best
practices.
- Attention
to detail and ability to follow directions.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lb. boxes
up and down stairwells.
- Excellent communication skills:
ability to listen actively, speak and write clearly, and effectively
present information and ideas to groups.
