  Recently, while processing and describing Channel 9 & 10 News film footage we found a segment of the 1979 AuSable Canoe Race Marathon showing some other race activities, and some of the top finishers. Here are a few images from that segment. The last two images are, I believe, Butch Stockton (brunette) and his partner Bob Welsh (blonde)  heading towards the bank and being briefly interviewed about how sick Butch was all night. They finished fourth that year according to the race statistics. I’ve been working at the Clarke since January of 2022, and I’ve been incredibly grateful to have spent over three years working as a student assistant for film processing! As someone who’s always loved viewing film and photographs from the past, it has been a real treat to be able to see the passage of time through the archived film footage– viewing over a decade’s worth of film from the 1960’s–70’s as a worker at the Clarke.    As a student, however, I’ve primarily dabbled in storytelling!
